Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Hazel, a 3-year-old hound mix who has made a massive transformation over the past few months.
When the pup arrived at The Simon Foundation in Bloomfield, Connecticut, she was emaciated, hairless and too weak to stand – obviously a victim of neglect. She was covered with flea dirt, had pressure sores all over her body from laying on a hard surface, and the pads of her feet were raw.
But despite everything, Hazel never showed any aggression toward anyone as shelter workers tried their best to clean her up. She’s still recovering from a severe case of mange and generalized Alopecia, but over a short time she has transformed into a much healthier looking dog.
“She has gained weight and has become a friendly and sweet girl that loves attention,” says Lisa Agresti, general manager at the rescue.
Hazel needs a safe, loving home where she can continue to heal and grow. “Hazel is a miracle. She brought us to tears when she arrived,” Agresti says. Now “she adores the company of other dogs and has blossomed into quite the clown.” If you think you’re the one to help her back to health, call The Simon Foundation at 860-519-1516.
