For every pet living with a happy family, there is an animal in a shelter waiting to find a forever home. So today, we want you to meet Sophia, a 3-year-old rottweiler with a “gentle soul” living at Pet Rescue in Miami, Fla.
Sophia – all 70 lbs. of her! – came to Pet Rescue this month after being found on the streets of Miami. The non-aggressive pup was diagnosed with heartworm disease, but according to shelter volunteer Lynn Morganroth “her recovery will be full and she will be ready for her new home soon. She just needs quiet time for the next month.”
The pooch loves attention, but apparently isn’t too vocal about it: Instead of barking to turn heads, she just stares people down until they realize she wants to be petted. “She always ends up with someone back in her pen petting her, instead of other dogs,” says Morganroth.
Pet Rescue was established in 1982 and has been providing shelter, food and a safe place for hundreds of animals ever since. Unfortunately, due to the economy, the no-kill shelter has had to cut back on the number of animals it rescues, though it has found homes for more than 100 dogs and cats this year alone.
Donations – in the form of food, toys, snacks, money and volunteer time – are always welcome! Find more information – and the shelter’s wish list – visit its Web site.
