She was a novice onscreen – and Jude Law has been around the block on-camera and off – but their lengthy smooch for My Blueberry Nights has become a hot view on YouTube.
“He’s fabulous,” said Jones of Law at The Cinema Society and IWC-sponsored premiere of the film in New York Wednesday night. “A great guy.”
“All I had to do was be passed out on the table,” added Jones. “Jude had to do this whole little dance. My eyes were closed, but it looks good on film. It was … not bad. I can’t imagine anyone better at kissing.”
It was director Wong Kar Wai’s first film in English, but the steamy scene didn’t require words. “I saw good chemistry between them,” the director said. “I told Jude, ‘When you’re playing tennis with a first timer, you have to be prepared for any scenario. And that will bring new energy to your work.’ The kiss is the first time that they physically touch. He has to be very precise. He has to get rid of the cream on her lips [from pie] and then kiss.”
“He’s very cute,” singer Chan Marshall, also known as Cat Power, who also smooches Law in the film, told the audience at the Tribeca Grand Screening room. “I kissed him first.”
“Well, I kissed him longer,” replied Jones.
